The AI Clinician is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool that recommends the best treatment for sepsis . The AI Clinician studied the electronic health records of patients that were treated for sepsis. It uses this information to provide personalised treatment recommendations to clinicians. Our study is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and aims to test the tool in NHS hospitals. This will show us how well the tool works and how we can improve it.


The long-term expected benefits of this project are include: improved patient survival, reduced use of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) resources and healthcare costs. The study is taking place in two stages. We will first check if off duty doctors agree with the treatment choices made by the Artificial Intellignce Tool. It will then be used in real time at patient’s bedsides in order assess technical feasibility.
